4. Tom Cruise Auditioned His Wives
The Rumour: If all of the rumour-mills are to be believed, Tom Cruise is the craziest man in Hollywood, hiding a closet full of skeletons and he has just about as many rumours attached to him as he has made films. One of the silliest sounding, but widely spread rumours came from an interview with ex-scientologist Marc Headley in Vanity Fair who claimed that Cruise held fake casting calls to find himself a wife. Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba were apparently all on the long list before Tom decided to marry Katie Holmes who was apparently romanced traditionally, rather than auditioned.
The Truth: Cruise's lawyers have vehemently denied the rumours, including those made by Vanity Fair specifically concerning British Iranian actress Nazanin Boniadi, who was supposedly put through an exhaustive process to see if she was fit to date the former Cocktail star, and was them rejected after a secret three month relationship. Rumours persist however, and former Scientologist and film-maker Paul Haggis backs them up further. But Scientology is an easy target, and so is Cruise - and it's often a lot more entertaining to believe the rumours rather than hold out for the truth.
