10 Overblown Film Directors Who Need To Learn The Meaning Of Restraint
7. M. Night Shyamalan
The word ego is defined in the dictionary as "a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance". Next to this passage, you will see a picture of M. Night Shyamalan looking smug. Shyamalan's career started off extremely promising with the huge success of The Sixth Sense and his popularity continued with the subsequent releases Unbreakable and Signs. As Shyamalan continued to make films though, something odd happened. Each movie grew progressively worse and worse until we were left with the likes of The Happening and The Last Airbender. It's like Shyamalan is Benjamin Button, but instead of regressing in age, he's regressing in talent. Eventually, his last film will be a 5 minute short released on betamax. Obviously, Shyamalan needs to stop making films just so he can preserve the small shred of respect audiences still hold for his earlier work, but he also needs to stop being so damn predictable with those easy to spot twists and embarrassingly self indulgent cameos. Enough is enough Shyamalan. Put down the camera and walk away slowly.
