10 Overblown Film Directors Who Need To Learn The Meaning Of Restraint
6. Zack Snyder
Zack Snyder is one of those old school film directors who just loves blowing s**t up. Some may fault him for this, but to be fair to Snyder, it's not all mindless violence. Sometimes, a bunch of owl guardians have a big old battle too! Joking aside, Snyder has a lot of potential as a serious film maker. His directorial debut, the remake to Dawn of the Dead, could have just been a trashy shot by shot copy of the original, but Snyder successfully modernised the original story for a new generation. Watchmen was also a bold choice which outraged plenty of fans, but actually stands up quite well in hindsight. Then there was Sucker Punch. In that one film, Snyder combined all of his geeky teenage obsessions into an incoherent mess that should have been awesome, but unfortunately featured just one slow-mo shot too many. Man of Steel also divided audiences with overblown fight scenes that took up the entire final act of the movie. That was unfortunate because there's actually a decent film in there, as long as you overlook the musclebound freaks smashing into buildings for the umpteenth time. Cut down on the slow-mo Snyder. That's an order.
