10 Overlooked Horror Slasher Movies That Deserve Your Attention

Not an entirely unknown entry in the slasher canon, but one that remains seldom-seen by many, The Prowler is one of the nastiest films that the slasher boom of the eighties spewed up from its wretched bowels.

It follows the heinous acts committed by the titular Prowler, a masked army veteran who goes a little crazy after being given a 'Dear John' letter upon arriving home from deployment. From there, The Prowler makes it their mission to brutally slaughter loved-up couples that represent the love he once lost.

Outside of this film's legendary Tom Savini SFX work, The Prowler is a very stripped-down affair that keeps it simple and goes directly for the throat. It wastes little-to-no time getting stab-happy and keeps its thrills and suspense going throughout the entire runtime. It does feature the traditional 'whodunit' angle so commonly found within the genre, but it typically plays second fiddle to the tense chase sequences and horrific death scenes.

This film's success saw it's director Joseph Zito team up with Tom Savini once again to helm Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter - which is arguably the finest slasher ever put to film, so there's that too!
