10 Overlooked Positives Of Divisive Upcoming Movies

4. Everything Apart From The Split Works - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Why The Film Is Questionable: The main reason Divergent, The Maze Runner and whatever Young Adult dystopia story Hollywood tries to make next follow so closely to what The Hunger Games did isn't just because the Panem movies were popular. It's because of who they were popular with - namely, everyone. Previous YA adaptations - Twilight in particular, but also Harry Potter to an extent - always had the feeling they were simply playing to the already converted, telling the stories with little care for making them accessible to newcomers. But then along came The Hunger Games, which took the teenage-aimed idea and made it work on a grander scale, promising a new mega-franchise with mainstream appeal. And then they decided to screw that, split the third movie in two and made something underwhelming, tempering expectations for the final part later this year. The Overlooked Positive: Mockingjay - Part 2 is unlikely to work overall as a film due to only having half a story to tell, but if Part 1 is anything to go by it should get some things right. As with any movie split in half just to bring in two box office receipts, Part 1 great. But unlike The Hobbit, which had numerous problems even without the three-way split, the constituent elements still worked. The cast (especially Jennifer Lawrence as franchise lynchpin Katniss) all fill their silly-named roles perfectly, the action was engaging and the darker, Aliens military inspired look fit the evolving series.
