7. It Has A Very Impressive Beyond-The-Grave Cameo
In another reference to the Christopher Reeve movies, Bryan Singer chose to use stock footage, old recordings and CGI to bring Marlon Brando back to the role of Supermans dad Jor-El, despite the actors death in 2004. This was a lovely little mark of respect, as well as a fun cameo for fans to enjoy. Nowadays, cameos and call-backs and knowing casting decisions are a huge topic of discussion among the fan community for comic book films. Ant-Man even nodded to Garrett Morris, a former Saturday Night Live actor who parodied the diminutive superhero in a sketch one time several years ago. If thats whats considered a newsworthy cameo these days, having a star as massive as Marlon Brando turn up in your film despite being dead should earn you a huge amount of adoration. But, for many reasons, that isn't the response that Superman Returns received. The careful CGI recreation of Marlon Brando wasnt enough to convince people into loving the film, but it was very cool nonetheless.
