10 Overlooked & Underappreciated 90s Action Movie Flicks

4. Fire Down Below (1997)

Tough And Deadly Roddy Piper
Warner Bros.

By 1997 Steven Seagal had put together a pretty good body of work. His violent action classics such as Nico (aka Above the Law), Out for Justice, Under Siege and The Glimmer Man still garner praise, even from some of his staunchest critics. After 1997 however, there is no defending his work. Before it all went downhill for the Aikido master (including his off-screen reputation), there was Fire Down Below. The man keeps busy though, starring in seven movies in 2016 alone (none of which have an IMDB rating of over 5).

Seagal plays an undercover EPA agent who arrives at a small town to investigate suspected toxic waste dumping. In the Appalachian town, he finds himself up against hostile residents, crooked cops and evil fat-cats who are all involved in the secret environmental crimes. It is up to big Steve to save the day and all of nature.

Fire Down Below is arguably the last genuinely good Seagal fronted movie. We’re treated to plenty of explosions, car crashes and lots of people getting good, sound and well-deserved beatings. This environmentalist action adventure lost approximately $40,000,000 at the box office and in the UK it went straight to video.
