4. Andrew Dominik

It's surprising how vociferous and dedicated Andrew Dominik's fanbase has become, given that the guy has only directed 3 films in his 12-year career, and each to a relatively modest reception. His debut film, Chopper, was a visceral breath of fresh air, topped by a fantastic Eric Bana performance, whereas his follow-up, the obnoxiously-titled The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, was too bloated for its own good despite two strong central performances also. His third film, Killing Them Softly, again succumbed to its own excesses, this time with a capitalism-central narrative that shoved its ideology down the viewer's throat rather than focus on crafting an entertaining story. In short, each of his three films is good, though the latter two are victims of their own exuberance. Still, with only three films under his belt that are solidly enjoyable yet little more, it's astounding to see how many fans he has amassed, rather undeservedly.
