10 Painfully Underrated Sci-Fi Horror Movies

6. The Mist (2007)

Film's based on the works of Stephen King are hit-or-miss, but The Mist stands tall as one of the best, and most underrated, adaptions.

The movie follows a large group of people who are trapped in a supermarket after mysterious mist rolls into their town. What follows is the slow disintegration of their makeshift society, all the while bloodthirsty Lovecraftian creatures attack them from the fog.

The unpredictable nature of the denizens in the store keeps the suspense incredibly high as they descend into religious fanaticism, murder and increasingly desperate measures to survive. The monster designs are also fantastic with a gruesome scene involving a centipede-like tentacle sure to haunt your dreams.

There's plenty of set-pieces, terrific acting and twists to hold your attention and the climax is also one of the ballsiest endings to ever grace a big-budget movie. This one will stay with you long after the credits roll.

It's a terrifying look into the horrors of mob mentality and the lengths people will go to when hope looks lost. The average reviews that the film got upon release don't reflect just how effective this sci-fi horror truly is.
