10 Paranormal Horror Movies You Need To See Before You Die

8. The Ring

It Follows Maika Monroe

Arguably the most famous horror flick released during the early 2000s, The Ring had been terrifying audiences, on the big screen at least, ever since the release of Ringu in Japan back in 1998. The story of Samara and her infamous tape that kills anyone a week after they watch it, The Ring was absolutely instrumental in bringing about a rejuvenation for Asian horror and went a long way in influencing the craze of recreating Asian horror films into the English-speaking world.

An absolute classic, everything from the ugly green tinge on almost every scene to the shot of the well which Samara climbs out of has gone onto become infamous across the horror community.

Racking up a box office of $250 million against a budget of just under $50 million, what arguably makes The Ring such a huge paranormal flick is its surprisingly sparing use of blood or gore. Sure, there are more than a handful of creepy visuals and classic jump scares to keep things moving, but The Ring's true terror comes from how easy it is for audiences to imagine themselves in the life or death situation the characters find themselves in.

If there was a real cursed tape similar to the one in The Ring, it's easy to imagine there would be more than a few people willing to give it a watch, after all.
