Lawrence of Arabia, he is a truly esteemed thespian of the highest calibre. OToole is a revered graduate from the Shakespearian school of acting and has enjoyed a long and illustrious career on stage as well as on the silver screen. OToole has made Oscar history for receiving the most acting nominations without a win, with an astonishing 8 nominations (his acting associate and good friend Richard Burton is a close second place with 7). In 2003 he received an honorary award for being an actor whose remarkable talents have provided cinema history with some of its most memorable characters. However he very nearly turned down the award OToole didnt want a consolation prize, he wanted the real deal. In 2007 he did receive another nomination for
Venus, but a sense of ill-fated deja-vu struck again as he lost out to Forest Whitakers performance in
The Last King of Scotland. Always gracious in defeat, OToole jokingly remarked, always the bridesmaid, never the bride, my foot as he accepted his honorary award.
