Played in the mini-series by: Bill Faggerbakke One of the most loveable and enduring characters from The Stand, Tom Cullen was initially believed by Nick Andros to be in his mid 20's due to his inherent child like qualities, but was likely quite a bit older than he seemed. His mild to moderate mental deficiencies made him seem to be quite younger. Cullen possesses a predominantly childish speech pattern and he intermittently exclaims "My laws!" and "Laws, yes!", in addition to making frequent references to himself in the third person. And his most defining quirk; he believes that everything is spelled "M-O-O-N" as in "M-O-O-N, that spells 'my main man'." But Tom also plays an extremely important role in the showdown with the Las Vegas crew and ultimately is the only person to mentally thwart Flagg. This is a tough one casting wise. For many, Bill Faggerbakke is Tom Cullen. The site of the big blonde man with the overalls on, staring blankly off into space will forever be their version of the character. Alas, Faggerbakke is now a little long in the tooth to play Cullen. Enter, Jason Segel. Segel has an amazing penchant for channeling his inner child into many of his roles. His comedic timing is impeccable and to boot, he's a tall man, meaning his physical characteristics match the book. Beyond that though, this is more of a feel thing and much like Bill Faggerbakke before him, Segel could ultimately make the character his own.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
