10 Perfect Casting Choices to Support Ben Affleck's Batman

3. Emma Stone €“ Barbara Gordon/ Batgirl

It€™s an absolute crime that Barbara Gordon has not been adapted for the silver screen €“ and no, Batman & Robin€™s Barbara Wilson does not count - considering that she is one of the most compelling and popular characters in Batman€™s family. She€™s intelligent, shares her father€™s stubbornness and is incredibly brave, and is also a role model and one of the few characters who isn€™t sexualized ridiculously in comics. Academy Award nominee Emma Stone is the Barbara Gordon we need, she€™s already proven her acting ability (she was spectacular in Birdman), has the €˜girl next door€™ look and the same undeniable charm about her that comic fans associate with Barbara. Emma may have already appeared in a comic book film, but it's a far better prospect to see her dishing out the vigilante justice as opposed to patching up the hero€™s injuries. With the rumours of Jared Leto€™s Joker being set up as the main antagonist in Ben Affleck€™s solo Batman adventure, DC could take a huge risk and adapt the popular The Killing Joke storyline that Barbara plays an important (and heartbreaking) role in. The storyline would give both actors something to really sink their teeth into, and a chance for Jared Leto to separate his Joker from the inevitable comparisons to Heath Ledger€™s iconic portrayal. Or, if DC really want to take advantage of the Bat Family, adapting Hush or Death of the Family would also be a great choice, both in which Barbara is a pivotal character in.
