10 Perfect Comic Book Castings That Need To Happen (But Probably Won’t)

7. Henry Cavill – Captain Britain

Comic Book Movie Castings
Paramount

It’s no real surprise that Henry Cavill is a popular fancasting choice. The British actor's performance as Superman in the DCEU resonated despite the franchise's fluctuating critical reception, while his turn as Geralt in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher won affection on account of his own love for the novels and games on which it was based.

The mishandling of Cavill’s Superman and his consequent departure following a return in Black Adam came as a disappointment to many including himself, but Marvel has the chance to capitalise and hook a big fish here before he swims off.

Cavill fits Captain Britain to a tee. And that’s not the end of it, as he himself has publicly expressed interest in playing the part in question.

When chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill states that “… I have seen the various rumours about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernised version of that… there’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.” In what is undoubtedly a match made in heaven, you may be wondering, what’s the catch? Well, there are a few.

Firstly, that interview took place back in 2021, and with the way the now 40 year old has been treated previously by big-budget studios, he would be well within his right to leave the comic book world behind for good. Secondly, Cavill is booked and busy for the foreseeable, with the actor reportedly in the running to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.
