The big twist that came at the end of Homecoming was definitely a bold one to take, what with Aunt May getting the drop on Pete while he was admiring his Spidey-suit in the mirror. It marks a first for the character in discovering her nephew's secret off the page, and - perhaps unsurprisingly - there isn't really a precedent in place for the reveal.

In 'The Conversation', J. Michael Strazynski first tackled the prospect of May discovering Peter was Spider-Man, and it was a high-point in the writer's run. There, Peter confesses all regarding the night Uncle Ben died - as does May - and the two hug things out. The MCU's Spidey is, however, in a somewhat odd position. No explicit reference was made to Ben, with Homecoming instead electing to subtly reference the event with Peter wearing an old suit to prom, and remarking about all that May had 'been through' in recent years.

It makes the ramifications of a reveal somewhat exciting, as we literally don't know what'll happen. Indeed, Peter's MCU origins remain somewhat unexplained, and, as a result, we don't even know the role Ben had to play - if any - in his rise to being a hero.

As much as we like to moan about seeing Ben die over and over, it would be nice to see more of the thought process that went into Peter's decision to become Spider-Man. It's clear that this is a new version of the character, after all, and using The Conversation as a springboard to discuss the character's origins is an interesting prospect to consider.
