In Christopher Smith's Triangle, Jess and her friends set sail on a yacht, only to stumble upon an abandoned ship. When they come aboard, the gang discover they are being hunted by a masked killer, and as they try to learn their pursuer's identity, Jess soon realises there is a much bigger problem to deal with.

Being a sci-fi psychological slasher, Triangle runs the risk of juggling too many ideas for its own good. However, the way this British indie repeatedly switches from one genre to another stops the story from becoming stale, with many familiar tropes revealed to be surgically placed red herrings to keep the mystery lingering for as long as possible.

Just when it feels like Jess is beginning to wrap her head around what's happening, a last-minute bombshell is dropped, which re-contextualises certain lines of dialogue, characters' behaviour and motivations, and the wider narrative as a whole.

Not only will the mind-melting third act compel viewers to give Triangle another go, they may feel obligated to watch it a few times, since there are many crucial aspects of this dense plot to unpack.
