The first film after the release of Avengers Assemble was Iron Man 3, and after the middling quality of Iron Man 2 there was some debate as to whether the third movie would disappoint after the record-breaking performance of Avengers Assemble. However, Shane Black taking over for Jon Favreau as director seemed to change things up for the better - despite a divisive villain, Iron Man 3 was far better received critically than its predecessor and handily outperformed it at the box office, becoming the fifth highest grossing movie of all time. However, a high ranking on this list suggests that viewers turned off by the mediocre second film were unwilling to see the third - perhaps Iron Man 4 will be an ever bigger hit.
