Then, it was a quickly fading street racing series that was confined to DVD and scarcely related to the first two films other than a brief cameo by Vin Diesel. However, since retooling the action content of the movies and taking advantage of a hungry European audience, the franchise has gone well beyond anyone ever really expected of it. Such a turnaround in the fortunes of this series only throws into further contrast the tragic passing of its prodigal star.
