10 Pivotal X-Men Moments The Movies Ignored
3. "No More Mutants"
M-Day changed everything. It erased the mutations of all but a handful of mutants, leaving them an endangered species with no new mutants being activated for a relatively long time.
True, it is a very specific moment that was set up by the Scarlet Witch breaking reality a couple of times, but the fallout from that one sentence in 2005 is still felt in comics today. It is earmarked by readers as one of the most pivotal moments - and there's a great reason for that.
The X-Men have become so saturated in pop culture that there's one of two ways to play it: go deep with the lore or turn the scenario everyone knows on its head. When the mutants became an endangered species, all bets were off. There was a massive exodus, the founding of a veritable island-nation, and even the basic dream of coexistence became a heated debate within the mutant community, all while the action and drama fans know and love continued.
The Fox films, especially the ones that released after '05, ignored the most pivotal moment of mutantkind. Here's hoping the MCU addresses it in the future.
