10 Out Of Place Or Unexpected Lines Of Dialogue In Comic Book Movies

1. "Mewling Quim" (The Avengers)

Mewling Quim LokiThe dialogue Natasha Romanoff: "It's really not that complicated. I've got red in my ledger, I'd like to wipe it out." Loki: "Can you? Can you wipe out that much red? Drakov's daughter, Sao Paulo, the hospital fire? Barton told me everything. Your ledger is dripping, it's gushing red, and you think saving a man no more virtuous than yourself will change anything? This is the basest sentimentality. This is a child at prayer. Pathetic! You lie and kill in the service of liars and killers. You pretend to be separate, to have your own code, something that makes up for the horrors. But they are a part of you and they will never go away! I won't touch Barton. Not until I make him kill you! Slowly, intimately, in every way he knows you fear! And then he'll wake just long enough to see his good work, and when he screams, I'll split his skull! This is my bargain, you mewling quim!" Why was it unexpected or out of place? This was the single most unbelievable piece of dialogue, for me, in any movie that I can remember! "Quim", while certainly not as offensive as its "c" word counterpart, essentially means the same thing and is basically the gentlemen's way of saying it. That said, it's still utterly amazing that it made it in to the Avengers movie - which, while a great movie, is a popcorny comic book action-fest that kids around the world adore. It has a "12" certificate in the United Kingdom and a "PG-13" certificate in the United States of America, so to have this phrase come completely out of the blue in a cinematic franchise that had otherwise refrained from pretty much all profanity was unbelievable. I can only assume that the people responsible for granting certificates didn't know what the term meant. So there you have it; ten out of place or unexpected lines of dialogue in comic book movies.
