10 Places Every Star Wars Fan Should Visit On Holiday

3. Tunisia €“ Planet Tatooine

Star Wars Tatooine Sunset Make sure to brush up on your Bocce language skills before coming out to Tunisia. Tunisia is the real deal if you're a Star Wars fan. Not only does this location appear in both the Original Trilogy and the Prequels, but it's Tatooine in its finest. However, one of the saddest things about this location is that because of the ever changing landscape of the Tunisian dunes, many of the sites from the Original Trilogy are now covered with sand. If you do happen to make it to Tunisia, the cities you should stop at should be: € Naftah and surrounding desert€“ Lars Homestead exterior shots and igloo; location of the lightsaber battle between Qui-Gon and Darth Maul; Mos Espa main set; and Darth Maul lookout spots. € Daqas and surrounding desert €“ Jawa and Tusken Raider scenes. € Matmata €“ Lars Homestead. € Ksar Medenine €“ Skywalker Alley/Shmi and Anakin's home. From Medenine, which is on the East side of Tunisia, to Naftah, which is the Western most Star Wars location, it's about a four to five hour drive. Easily doable! As an added bonus, the Lars Homestead site in Matmata is a real hotel where you can enjoy staying in Hotel Sidi Driss for as many nights as you choose. You can feel like the ultimate moisture farmer as you walk between the separate caverns that now hold bedrooms. It even has a small restaurant, though you may have to bring your own blue milk. Cost: Around 16.5 DT a night for Hotel Sidi Driss, rental car in Tunisia: 165.3 DT a day.
