10 Popular Horror Movies That Really Weren't Scary At All

5. Saw

Saw is one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all time, and it all started with an unassuming $1.2 million movie with minimal locations, few actors and an economic emphasis on creative blood 'n guts.

Saw's precise genre has been a matter of debate among fans, with some deeming it more a psychological thriller or part of the "torture porn" subset, which continued with the Hostel series and the increasingly splatter-happy Final Destination movies.

But despite being marketed as card-carrying horror, Saw scarcely has scares on its mind at all, the focus instead being on mythologising a genius madman while coming up with inventively disgusting ways to dismantle the human body. You can see why the torture porn label stuck, then.

Though the various traps do invite the viewer to place themselves in the victims' shoes, this is more to stomach-churning than frightening ends, and as invested in these movies as fans might be, few would deem them legitimately terrifying.
