10 Possession Movies You Need To Watch If You Liked The Exorcist

6. Fallen

The Possession of Hannah Grace
Warner Bros.

Fallen is a 1998 supernatural film that focuses on demons, demonic possession and Hell in a unique way. Starring Denzel Washington and directed by Gregory Hoblit, the story follows the trail of an inner-city cop who is trying to get to the bottom of a series of grisly murders that seem to echo the work of a man he arrested previously. The trouble is, that criminal was executed some time ago.

Presuming the new spate of killings to be the work of a copycat, the tired and jaded cop, played perfectly by Washington, soon begins to realise that there is much more to the crimes than meet the eye. In fact, there is a demonic energy at play - or so his theory goes.

Fallen runs over two hours, but the story seems tight enough to keep audiences invested. A taught and unsettling atmosphere clings throughout, with the subject of the occult explored heavily to dramatic effect. It's realism and subtleness allows for this movie to feel a little uncomfortably real, and that makes it worth a watch and a worthwhile contender on this list.
