10 Possession Movies You Need To Watch If You Liked The Exorcist
3. Saint Maud
Saint Maud is a 2019 horror film, written and directed by Rose Glass in her directorial debut. It has all the essential ingredients of a great demonic possession film: solid acting, religious exploration and very freaky scenes of dark and disturbing behaviour, such as self-harm and demonic hallucinations.
The movie centers on a live-in nurse called Maud who, having recently converted to Catholicism, believes she can help the patient in her care - who is dying of cancer - be saved by God through her prayers, efforts and endeavours. The film travels to extremely disturbing lengths to show the degradation and mental evolution of Maud as she becomes infested with the demonic. It's a frightening and yet beautifully scripted film.
Released by Escape Plan Productions, Saint Maud won several awards and was met with high praise and critical acclaim upon release. The picture holds an impressive record of 92% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, and is one of the best contenders for a tale of modern demonic possession, cast perfectly and portrayed in a deeply disturbing fashion.
