Well, why not? Its practically a certainty that the terrible performance of the Fantastic Four reboot, critically and commercially, will mean that a sequel is no longer on the cards. Unfortunately, Fox need to release a Fantastic Four movie by a certain date to prevent the rights to the characters from reverting back to Marvel but interest in the property as a cinematic franchise is at an all-time low. What better way to reintroduce the First Family of all superheroes into the mix by recasting and rebooting, having Reed Richards be an old friend of Xaviers? His son Franklin is an extraordinarily powerful mutant, after all and maybe this is the reality-altering Omega level homo superior that weve been looking for to kickstart the aforementioned House Of M storyline. It makes sense to try and sneak a new Fantastic Four to audiences through the X-Men, using the already successful franchise to piggyback a backdoor reinvention of the franchise that would be too much of a financial risk as a standalone film at that juncture. Think safe with the casting, going for name recognition and appearance. Mark Hughes, writing for Forbes in 2013, came up with a killer dream cast in Jon Hamm, Naomi Watts, Ron Perlman (with voice and motion capture for a CGI Thing) and Erik Knudsen which Id find it hard to fault. Book those actors, forget about yet another origin story, and shoehorn them into the House Of M storyline with the X-Men. Give Hamm and Watts enough time to shine, and test the waters for an eventual reboot to the reboot, and a lower budget new Fantastic Four movie a couple of years later to retain control of the franchise and take it forward from there.
