10 Post-Apocalyptic Films That Prove Mankind Is Doomed

10. A Boy And His Dog (1975)

Based on the short story by Harlan Ellison, the story posits an alternative history to the world; one where JFK survived the assassination attempt and mankind focussed its attentions on advancements in telepathy and robotics. If you€™ve ever played the Fallout series or read The Manhattan Projects; you€™ll understand this weird new world. The year is now 2024, a teenager and his psychic bearded collie (you did read that right) travel across the American Southwest, now a desert wasteland devastated by nuclear warheads. As you€™d expect from any teenager, his primary concerns are food and sex - of which there is a shortfall in both departments. At its ugly heart lies an incredibly grim and misogynistic story about survival and teenage desire in a world without law or government. There€™s a telling line in the director€™s commentary where he suggests €˜the only human in this movie is a dog.€™
