10 Post-Credits Horror Movie Scenes That Changed Everything

8. The Thing (2011)

Remakes can be a risky business, as treading on hallowed horror ground is usually very brave or very stupid - either way, not all land smoothly. The 2010 A Nightmare On Elm Street remake decided to change the backstory of Freddy without thinking it through. If the character is re-written as a pervert and not the "filthy child murderer" from the 1984 Wes Craven masterpiece, then why does he need the glove?

Anyway, John Carpenter's 1982 special effects tour de force The Thing broke so much ground in horror special effects that it was hard to see why anyone would attempt a straight remake - especially when using CGI to replace the wonderful body horror animatronics used in the 80s version.

As the plot rounded up to something resembling a satisfying conclusion, the credits rolled and the horror (and not the good kind) didn't end there. As the rescue team arrives by helicopter, a lone survivor fires a rifle from a window of the seemingly decimated Norwegian camp and the dog escapes into the snow. Hang on a minute, this is beginning to look familiar...

The PCS reveals, at the eleventh hour, that this is not a remake but a prequel! The dog is fleeing right into the start of the 1982 version, carrying the alien virus with it. Enter Kurt Russell's beardy MacReady, who was clearly Mac-Ready for anything.
