10 Post-Credits Horror Movie Scenes That Changed Everything

7. Cloverfield

Released in 2008, directed by Matt Reeves (Planet Of The Apes reboots and The Batman) and produced by one-time baby Spielberg clone JJ Abrams, Cloverfield is a monster movie of appropriately massive proportions. It takes something of considerable size to trash Manhattan and this vaguely friendly looking twenty-five story tall whatever-it-is tears through New York's landmarks like Slimer at a hot dog stand.

As Rob, Beth, Jason, Rod, Lily, Marlena and Hud attempt to flee the destruction, the US government pulls out all the stops, helicopters, missiles, dog treats, but nothing is stopping it. As it begins to shed little parasitic creatures from its back that will later attack Marlena in the subway, the situation seems hopeless for our heroes.

The US government need to chill this behemoth, so the military fire calming nukes at it, as survivors Rob and Beth take refuge under a Central Park bridge. In then final tragic found-footage moments of the film, it appears that the monster has been killed along with half the population, including Rob and Beth as the credits begin to roll.

Yet here comes the post-credits scene, and a static impaired transmission is heard. Initially sounding meaningless, play the footage in reverse and all becomes clear - "It's alive... " speaks the voice. Producers were clearly fishing for a sequel and although 10 Cloverfield Lane shared the universe, John Goodman turned out to be a considerably more manageable monster indeed.
