10 Potential Directors For The Jurassic World Sequel
10. Gareth Edwards
Like Colin Trevorrow, Gareth Edwards also got his start with a low budget movie that drew a lot of attention. For Edwards it was Monster in 2010, a pretty effective little film that cared far more about the characters living in this world than the monsters themselves. His most recent Godzilla reboot was excellent, and in a lot of ways it actually evoked classic Spielberg. It's a movie that has awesome monsters fighting, but once the destruction begins, Edwards doesn't only focus on the explosions and the buildings collapsing. He looks at the people and their reactions, creating a great sense of awe as all the insanity is going on. He also really draws out the suspense, with a very slow reveal of Godzilla just like Spielberg slowly reveals the shark in Jaws. This idea of capturing spectacle while still being built around characters is classic Spielberg, and something pretty important to this series. At the moment, Edwards is committed to Star Wars: Rogue One in 2016 and then Godzilla 2 in 2018, hence his low placement, but if Universal can be patient with the Jurassic World sequel they could be gifted with the perfect director.
