10 Potential Directors For Spider-Man 4

5. Neil Blomkamp

We're very lucky that Peter Jackson helped push Blomkamp into his feature film debut. District 9 is everything most alien invasion movies are not. It's clever, smart, funny, wildly entertaining, and rewarding. Elysium, though met with mixed reviews, is conceptually as thought provoking as any movie could hope to be. These two films alone are proof that Blomkamp likes to do what few directors have the courage to, shoot for the moon. Often times studios can get in the way of a fresh, new director take their property or "guaranteed success" in an entirely different direction for fear of alienating their audience and limiting box office returns. But fans also get tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. When you really break them all down, how have any of the Marvel films been different from any other Marvel films? They're all good fun, but essentially the same movie. Rethinking a huge property like Spider-Man and making it something of a social commentary €“ pretty much Blomkamp's ballpark €“ could give the entire genre some much-needed variety. There's a lot of superheroes out there and audiences seem to have no problem accepting them and the inevitable damage that comes along with their existence. It could be a worthwhile move to hire a director who might explore that notion.
