10 Potentially Awesome Movie Franchises That Never Took Off

1. Serenity

serenity I suppose us fans of Joss Whedon's maltreated sci-fi TV show Firefly should count ourselves lucky that a $40 million movie even got made in the first place, largely thanks to super-strong DVD sales of the classic cult series. Though the film was a critical success and fans loved it, the film just didn't get traction at the box office and failed to break even (despite folks such as myself going to see it three times), putting a stop to all plans for a trilogy of movies, to the despair of fans everywhere. I have no doubt that, under the guidance of Whedon, there could have been an absolutely fantastic trilogy of movies here, but alas, the mixture of western and sci-fi styles just doesn't seem to appeal to more casual audiences, and the cult appeal just isn't enough to push any studio to do something else with the property. Still, at least we got one great movie, I suppose... Which failed movie franchise do you most want to see continue? Let us know in the comments below.
