2. Unbreakable
Hot off the heels of M. Night Shyamalan's Best Picture-nominated The Sixth Sense, there was much hype surrounding the director's second major feature, Unbreakable, starring Bruce Willis as a man who slowly comes to believe that he is invincible after being the sole survivor of a brutal train crash. Though not as water-tight as his prior film, Unbreakable delivered some scintillating twists, and was one of the first films to engage with the idea of comic book characters in the real world. The movie earned positive reviews from critics and made over three-times its budget back at the box office, in addition to almost $100 million on home video. For over a decade, rumours have been percolating about a sequel to the movie, given that it ends on something of an ambiguous note, where there is clearly plenty more plot that could be mined. The second film would reportedly have seen Willis and Jackson's characters facing off against one another, and though both actors seem up for it, Shyamalan seems content to just keep spinning his wheels (which, given his recent output, is pretty surprising).
