10 Potentially Awesome Movies Released In May 2015

9. Good Kill

Watching American Sniper, it's tempting to think that Hollywood isn't very good at examining the effects of America's wars with any honesty or objectivity - Bradley Cooper's sniper character hardly underwent a searing analysis regarding the psychology behind killing, while the Arab enemies were depicted in cartoon stereotypes. Good Kill attempts to offer a counterbalance, examining the murky psychological problems experienced by drone pilot Thomas Egan (Ethan Hawke), who begins to crack after killing people in the Middle East from the comfort and safety of Las Vegas. With the number of innocent people killed by CIA-directed drone strikes rising, it's certainly a newsworthy topic for Hollywood, and Andrew Niccol previous films Lord Of War and Gattaca both prove he has a good grasp of both the wider politics of warfare and the nature of hierarchical institutions, themes which Good Kill has the potential to explore effectively.
