10 Potentially Awesome Movies Released In May 2015

8. Top Five

Chris Rock might have made more than a few stinkers over the course of his, admittedly prolific, career (it's safe to assume that Adam Sandler paid him a fortune to lower himself to be a part of the Grown Ups movies); but when he's on form as a stand-up comedian his observations and delivery can be second to none. With Top Five, Rock seems to have channelled the best of his talents into a film which is both thoughtful and amusing. As much a commentary on the nature of stardom and fame as it is a dialogue about relationships, as Rock's Andre Allen is interviewed by journalist Chelsea Brown (Rosario Dawson). Comparisons with Woody Allen have been flowing thick and fast and Top Five's dialogue-heavy structure - replete with plenty of strolls around New York - supports such comparisons favourably. It's a far cry from Adam Sandler territory and all the better for it.
