7. Ghost Rider
While the Ghost Rider character is hardly the most popular in the history of comic books, there's a certain quality to him which should have lent itself perfectly to a more mature and dark movie adaptation. Hard drinking and harbouring a dark secret which draws upon Satanism and devil worship, the potential for a dark, edgy and atmospheric tale was ripe. What could have turned out to be one of the more interesting comic book adaptations in recent years sadly wasn't to be - the resulting product completely failed to do any justice to the source material; instead it peddled cliched dialogue with out of place puns, with Ghost Rider's flaming skull provoking more laughter than it did fear or awe. Nicolas Cage claimed he was a huge fan of the comic book - it's a shame, then, that he didn't use his Hollywood clout to insist on an R rating, rather than the watered down PG-13 fiasco he ended up putting his name to.
