10 Potentially Great Marvel Movie Villains (That Were Grossly Underused)

A waste of a good Mads Mikkelsen (who has performed as some of the greatest villains and nuanced heroes in the past few years) more than anything, Kaecilius had the potential to be the kind of interesting and nuanced villain whose fanaticism and service of a greater master of indeterminable power could have added to his character.

Instead, his appearances were limited, his lines few, and he did little more than look cool and fight well. And while Mikkelsen was happy with the role for all the stunts he got to do himself, it did little service to Kaecilius' depth and personality. In the end, the only clue to his true potential was in the opening scene, where he cut a man's head off with no remorse, and the tears he shed of anger when speaking of The Ancient One. The rest of his supposed viciousness and evil was only ever told secondhand and through fun visuals, the charisma he used to obtain faithful followers and his hatred for The Ancient One barely explored.

Overall, Kaecilius was a one-note vehicle for a bigger threat, his only advantage being that Mads Mikkelsen performed the character fantastically.
