Cause Of Death: Though we see him grabbed by an alien tentacle in the latest TV spot, Whitmore will likely get an iconic, sacrificial death near the end of the movie, perhaps once again hopping into the pilot's chair, but this time realising that he can't take out the alien mothership from afar.
He'll fly into the heart of the beast and save the day.
Why It Will Be Iconic: Because we all love Pullman's character thanks to his unforgettable rallying speech from the first movie, and this would give the movie an unexpected emotional dimension, especially considering the presence of his daughter Patricia (Maika Monroe).
Plus, now that Whitmore is the ex-President, the notoriously right-wing Fox can kill him off without having to worry about any political ramifications.
It'll be an epic moment if done right, and with Jeff Goldblum still on the payroll, the rest of the film won't want for the charm of a grizzled old man. Give Whitmore a giant statue at the end of the movie and properly sell his heroism: you've got one hell of a send-off right there.
