10 Predictions For Marvel Cinematic Universe's Future

4. Bucky Will Become Captain America (Not Sam)

Even though Sam Wilson is currently Captain America in the comics, it probably won’t happen in the MCU. Since Bucky took up the identity in the comics after Steve had been assassinated (he got better), there’s precedent to have him take the role instead when Chris Evans eventually leaves.

It also makes sense, narratively. Sam has a chip on his shoulder about how he doesn’t measure up to Steve. Examples include his reaction to being lapped when they go running and his line, “I do what he does, but slower.” Bucky, though, knew Steve back when he was a scrawny little kid. He doesn’t venerate Steve the way Sam does. He’s not in awe, thinking himself unworthy of following in his footsteps. In fact, it’s fitting for Bucky to pick up a fight that Steve can’t finish. Or doesn’t want to. He may end up riding off into the sunset with Sharon Carter to live a peaceful life.

Despite currently being armless and brainwashed, Bucky is the superior choice. He is more powerful than Sam and more experienced. Besides, Sam becoming Cap in the comics was a stupid decision made for shameless marketing reasons. It should be Bucky.
