7. So... Has Wolverine Flipped His Lid With The Whole Jean Grey Thing?
Speaking of crappy connections with the afterlife, what is going on with Jean Grey? Is Logan so obsessed with her death that he's starting to lose it? Or is she somehow able to speak to Logan in his dreams? I'm not asking because I'm upset with the intentional ambiguity. I just really, really want to know, that's all. A lot of fans weren't overly enthused with these scenes - probably because it forced them to acknowledge the existence of X-Men 3. I never thought Logan loved Jean Grey as much as previous movies said he did, but I can see how killing her would mess him up. (Also, did they ever explain in X-Men 3 why they didn't just use the mutant cure on her? I'd watch that movie again, but that would mean I'd have to watch that movie again.) Personally, I think Logan's moments with Jean are among the best in the movie. It keeps the film moving forward in a way the actual story fails to do. His final words to her, "You were hurting people, Jean," are simple but surprisingly powerful. Then, their final scene ups the ante by strongly suggesting that Logan hasn't been wearing his crazy pants through the whole movie, that Jean Grey's spirit does live on in some kind of limbo, with Logan being her last connection to the world. If Logan lets go of that connection - which he does - he could doom her spirit to an eternity alone. I hope they don't try to bring her back, because the idea that these characters may have to suffer alone in their own ways - possibly forever - is pretty damned haunting.
