10 Problems With The Avengers No One Wants To Admit

2. Why Did Banner Lose Control?

The suspense over how Banner keeps control of his beastly alter ego was built as soon as Mark Ruffalo was introduced in the film. He, and SHIELD, were clearly wary of what would happen should he get angry, and he constantly teases about his €˜secret€™ for keeping control. Tony Stark, with whom Banner now has a bit of a bromance going on, even attempted to provoke a reaction in a bid to understand how Banner kept his green beast under control. Midway through the film we finally saw the Hulk unleashed, attacking the Avengers and damaging the Hellicarrier. This was amazing and has become an iconic moment within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This action packed scene was captivating and engaging, but it distracted from a pretty big issue - if Banner is always in control, then why did he lose it when things went awry? By the end of the film, he seemed to be fully in control of his body and mind again, riding a motorcycle to New York to battle the weak invaders, transforming at a whim. The Hulk is a hard character to bring to screen, and although the Avengers certainly gave us the best Hulk ever, this plot point simply does not make sense.
