10 Problems With The Avengers No One Wants To Admit
3. The Chitauri Were Weak Enemies
It is no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has long suffered from weak villains Whiplash, The Mandarin and Malekith have all been rather forgettable. Loki is the only adversary who has managed to really test the superheroes and to help him with this he recruited an army of alien invaders - surely these would test our mightiest heroes, right? These aliens, the Chitauri, turned out to be the weakest of all the foes in the MCU - they were easily defeated and never really posed a threat to the stars of the film - even Hawkeye and Black Widow, without superpowers, managed to defeat many of them. Granted there was a veritable smorgasbord of alien invaders, and the unrelenting pace with which they passed through the portal made them hard to control, but the Avengers were hardly fazed by these empty enemies. They were crushed quickly and without any extravagance - when the planet was meant to be at stake, fans expected the film to have a formidable foe, but were given timid villains who could be defeated with ease.
