Though there's little denying that Reynolds has been superbly cast in the title role, he's still got a huge mountain to climb considering his recent track record in a number of respects. Firstly, every single comic book movie he's starred in so far has sucked: Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Green Lantern, and R.I.P.D were all terrible, though in fairness none of them were strictly Reynolds' fault, even if he does seem to be a lightning rod for comic book failures. Then there's the thing that's surely making Fox a little more nervous, that despite being handsome and charismatic, Reynolds for some reason is box office poison. In the last five years, of his eleven starring movies, seven of them have been box office bombs or at least financially disappointing, with only four being remotely successful, yet the only one that as a runaway hit was an animated movie (The Croods). Hopefully this can be the film that brings him back to box office prominence, though it'll be interesting to see whether putting him under a mask for most of the film actually improves its financial prospects or not, given how not even his chiseled mug is bringing in the audiences at the moment.
