10 Promising Movies Cancelled For Bizarre Reasons
9. 9/11 Killed Forrest Gump 2
Robert Zemeckis' Forrest Gump unexpectedly became a huge success upon its release in 1994. The film, starring Tom Hanks, was widely praised for using real-life historical events as the background for Gump's life.
After becoming the 2nd highest grossing film of the year and somehow inexplicably beating both Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, it is no surprise that studio executives were hungry for a sequel.
Plans were soon put in place for screenwriter Eric Roth to adapt Winston Groom's 1995 book sequel Gump and Co. and was set to feature a look at Gump's journey throughout the 1990s.
Although this sounds innocent enough, the situations that Gump would find himself in seem to be entirely beyond belief.
These include hitching a ride in OJ Simpson's Ford Bronco during the infamous car chase, dancing with Princess Diana before her death and finding himself at the centre of the 1995 Oklahoma City truck bombing.
Unfortunately, the date that Roth handed his finished script into executives at Paramount Pictures just happened to be the 10th of September 2001.
According to Roth, following the enormous tragedy the next day, during a meeting between himself, Zemeckis and Hanks they mutually agreed that the planned sequel "had no meaning anymore", leading to the film being permanently shelved.
