10 Promising Movies Cancelled For Bizarre Reasons
7. ET 2 Was Cancelled For Being Far Too Disturbing
Following 1982's E.T. The Extraterrestrial becoming the highest grossing film of all-time, Steven Spielberg finally cemented his status as the undisputed king of the summer blockbuster.
The film charmed audiences across the globe with its story of 10-year-old Elliott and his friendship with the stranded alien E.T.
However, had it ever been released, his planned sequel E.T. 2: Nocturnal Fears would have likely both tanked his career and traumatised children worldwide.
Although all that exists of the film is a story treatment written by Spielberg and Melissa Mathison, this is more than enough to understand his truly horrifying vision.
The basic story revolved around a group of evil mutated albino aliens, who have been engaged in a civil war with E.T.'s species, hunting down the much beloved alien.
This hunt was set to involve the mutilation of cattle, the kidnap and torture of Elliott and his friends and, most inexplicably, the detailed divorce of his parents.
Unsurprisingly, Spielberg eventually decided to pass on making the sequel and would later comment that the planned film would "do nothing but rob the original of its virginity".
