10 Promising Movies Cancelled For Bizarre Reasons
6. Tim Minchin's Larrikins Was Canned Because DreamWorks Absolutely Hated Working With Him
Australian comedian Tim Minchin seems to have it all: multiple successful stand-up tours, incredible musical ability and an uncanny resemblance to Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
However, his comedic talent and musical prowess seemingly failed to appeal to DreamWorks who were slated to produce his planned animated musical comedy Larrikins in 2018.
The film, which was reportedly due to star a host of Australian acting heavyweights including Hugh Jackman and Margot Robbie, was set to follow the adventures of a desert-dwelling marsupial called Bilby on a rock'n'roll road trip across Australia.
Despite Minchin and co-directer Chris Miller working on the project for over four years, it was announced in early 2017 that the project had been scrapped by studio executives.
Although DreamWorks offered no official reason for the cancellation, a source close to production blamed the old Hollywood favourite of 'creative differences' for the film's fate.
Although, given the length of time and money spent on the project, it is easy to imagine that their feelings towards Minchin were significantly stronger.
The studio would later go on to use the animation assets generated during the project for their 2018 animated short film Bilby whilst Minchin released a statement promising to publicly "get drunk and sing ballads".
