10 Pulp Comic Book Heroes Who Deserve An Epic Movie Comeback

9. The Hourman

Biochemist Rex Tyler makes the incredible discovery of a miraculous vitamin he calls "Miraclo". When taken, Rex finds he has superhuman strength and increased speed the first hour after consumption. Thus the name, "Hourman." However the substance eventually proved addictive and the comics would treat Tyler not only as a man addicted to Miraclo but also as someone addicted to crime fighting. Because of this he became one of the first well known superheroes to battle addiction. He was also a founding member of the Golden Age superhero team The Justice Society of America, later assisting the Justice League when they became popular in the silver age. Though his son Rick Tyler would eventually take up the mantle, Rex Tyler is forever one of the most important and influential DC heroes to come from the golden age. Considering the originals from that era were The Flash, Green Lantern, the Sandman, and the Spectre, it's no secret that the Hourman is one of DC Comics' legacies. At this moment the CW network is looking to adapt the character into his own television series similar in tone to their popular show Arrow. Because he was one of the first heroes to struggle with a difficult real world problem like addiction there couldn't be anyone more deserving. Though not everyone is in that boat, it makes for a powerful statement about humanity and the toll that being a superhero can take on a man.
