10 Pulp Comic Book Heroes Who Deserve An Epic Movie Comeback
8. Doctor Fate
Coming from the same era as the Hourman, Doctor Fate appeared in "More Fun Comics" which was the first magazine publication that would later become DC Comics. Like the Hourman he too was a founding member of the Golden Age's Justice Society of America. But Doctor Fate's original origin features all the classic pulp undertones and blends both the fantasy elements of Burrough's John Carter novels, and the dark mystery of some of the genre's more important characters like The Shadow. Being taught the skills of a wizard by the ancient Egyptian spirit of Nabu, Kent Nelson returns to the states to wage a war on crime and supernatural evil. However that isn't the characters only origin. He is famous for having multiple incarnations throughout the years of both male and female alter egos. Due to the nature of his supernatural abilities Doctor Fate has always been a bit of a wildcard character who can let his abilities get the best of him. Still dealing primarily in a world dominated by male superheroes a Doctor Fate film could be, aside from Black Widow or Wonder Woman, a chance for a great female lead. Since the powers of Nabu seem not to discriminate based on sex it seems like the perfect opportunity for a studio to do the same. Judging by the popularity of films like The Hunger Games, Twilight, and Frozen, women led blockbuster films are proving just as successful as those led by male characters.
