10 Pulp Comic Book Heroes Who Deserve An Epic Movie Comeback
4. The Green Hornet
Another true to form inspiration for the Batman, The Green Hornet is probably the most recognisable of all on the list. Like Buck Rogers, the Hornet has found success in all formats of entertainment, especially on the radio and in his 1960's cult hit television series. Britt Reid is a wealthy newspaper publisher who moonlights as a vigilante with his kung-fu master sidekick Kato. They also purposefully allow the public and the police to see them as villains. This aids their efforts of infiltrating and bringing down various crime rings. What the Green Hornet helped establish was the idea that the sidekick was equally important to the hero. Much like the Lone Ranger and Tonto - the other brain child of Green Hornet creator Fran Striker - Kato was the pillar to the Hornet's success. When the series gained niche popularity in the 60s, it was Bruce Lee starring as Kato who stole the show. Although Seth Rogen and Evan Golberg's revitalisation of the hero wasn't well received by audiences or critics, the character is too important to let leave the public consciousness. Because of he and Kato's incredible importance and their unique approach to heroism, a great film only requires a creative team willing to treat the character the way he deserves.
