10 Questionable Criticisms Of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

The Criticism: Batman is seconds away from the killing stroke but after all of his work and determination, he relents simply because Superman mentions the name "Martha." It’s neat that both heroes’ mothers have the same name, but that should remain a bit of trivia, not a plot point that changes the course of the film.

Why It’s Questionable: As silly as it was, this was the moment that Superman became humanised to Batman. He stopped being the omnipotent alien threat and instead became a real person with a family.

More importantly, it also characterised Batman a bit as well. It's clear that in the 20 years he's been fighting crime he's strayed a bit from his original mission. Being reminded of his parents is a mini wake-up call for him to start acting more heroic.

It wasn’t very effectively conveyed in the film, but this character development is very important and without the Martha line, these points would not have been hammered home regarding Batman's behaviour.
