10 Questions A Sony Spider-Verse Must Answer
1. Where Will The Spider-Verse Go After Its First Saga?
Although Sony still needs to get their Spider-Verse up and running properly, they'd do well to continue planning for their subsequent "phases" so that they keep their destination always in sight. Do they need a strict roadmap like the MCU? Not necessarily, but they should plant seeds for key plot points that will drive new narratives forward after their first major storyline concludes.
The depth of the MCU is an element that Sony should create with their Spider-Verse. They can easily build-out alternate universes that don't always need to connect. The Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a departure from the Earth-based MCU films, but now they could churn out half a dozen space-based MCU films and still propel their overarching storyline without returning to Earth for years.
If Sony took their time fleshing out a Spider-Man 2099 universe, a Spider-Man Noir universe, and an Ultimate Spider-Man universe while keeping Venom's universe the "focus", these worlds could take center stage after the first major storyline concludes.
The worst mistake Sony could make — aside from failing to properly juggle characters — is to get this train up to full speed without knowing where the tracks will lead after they hit their first destination.
